The KOHA - Code of Conduct The mandate of the KOHA is to promote and develop adult recreational hockey by providing its members with a safe environment to play. KOHA has a responsibility to all it's members and officials to ensure that the rules are enforced, particularly when potential and unnecessary injuries could occur. The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to: - Ensure that the league and players are aware of the serious nature of some of the rule offences.
- Apply a common minimum standard of discipline.
- Make team captains more aware of their responsibilities in keeping control of the conduct of their teams and ensuring their players are aware of the existence of the code.
Minor Penalties - accumulation of 3 minor penalties in one game will result in a game ejection
- accumulation of 25 penalty minutes during the league year will result in a one game suspension
- accumulation of 35 minutes will result in an additional game misconduct
- misconduct penalties (Game and Gross) are not included in the 25/35 minute calculations
Ten Minute Misconducts - First Offence and Second Offence - no further action
- Third Offence - one additional game suspension
- Fourth Offence - subject to league review
- Any 10 minute misconduct with less than 10 minutes left in the game is subject to further review
Game Misconducts - First Offence - no further action
- Second Offence and Third Offence - one addtional game suspension
- Fourth Offence - subject to league review
- Any game misconducts with less than 10 minutes left in the game will result in next game suspension
Gross Misconducts - A gross misconduct could be issued for limited physical or verbal abuse of officials (including timekeeper) as well as for excessive behaviour. For example, limited physical abuse would be touching, bumping or touching an official with a pointed finger. Aggressive abuse or verbal threats towards the officials will result in an immediate expulsion from the league.
- First Offence - minimum of an additional 3 game suspension
- Second Offence - removal from the league
Major Penalty (not including fighting) - First Offence - remainder of game plus one additional games
- Second Offence - remainder of game plus three additional games
- Third Offence - subject to further review with possible removal from the league
Fighting Major Penalty - First Offence - remainder of game plus a minimum of two additional games
- Second Offence - remainder of game plus a minimum of five additional games
- A player identified as an aggressor or instigator will receive an additional 1 game to the above
- Third man into an altercation will be issued a game misconduct penalty and a minimum of one further game suspension and will be subject to further review by the discipline committee
Match Penalty - First Offence - remainder of game plus an additional three games
- Second Offence - subject to further review with possible removal from the league
Checking from Behind - Checking from the behind, anywhere on the ice, will result in one of the following and be subject to further review by the discipline committee:
- a minor penalty and game misconduct
- a major penalty and game misconduct
- a match penalty and game misconduct
** For discipline purposes and establishing game suspensions, Major, Match Penalties together with Gross Misconduct infractions in the preceding and current year league year will be used. ** Any play that results in an injury to a player may be subject to further review by the discipline committee. |
