POST CHRISTMAS BLUES

One no-show goalie, four players ejected from different games, a remarkable winning goal and a penalty filled schedule was what Santa left under the tree this Christmas break.

The first “post turkey” game saw Business Allies score three times before Goulbourn even got a goalie ( Bryson gives a big THANK YOU  to Tom Smith).Garth Rogers. Jerome MacLean and Dennis Duhaime each scored a pair and  Doug Roy added the singleton to edge the garbage men who almost make a fantastic come back as they replied five times with help from Bert Zeyl (2), Dave Graham, Jeff Harris and Stewart Curry. Bryson was wondering if he needed a goalie at all, since his team was more competitive without one.

The second game was not only a very close checking one but also very rough as both teams must have taken their ugly pills before suiting up for the match. Chris Troughton continued leading the league with a pair for Karson Kartage,  while Don Fraser and Murray Mckeage countered with goals for K.S.C. My reliable sources informed me that the two captains were wondering what was with all the rough stuff as this was suppose to be a fun game.

A & B Sports, behind a daring move by captain Godin, continued their rise to respectability as they outlasted Bradley and Associates 6-4 in a game that was not only fast and rough but featured a spectacular end to end goal by Dan Barrett. Down two players, Barrett flipped the puck ahead of himself at a face off in his own zone and raced up the ice with a defenseman all over him to pot the winner with less than two minutes to go. Godin , known for his innovative line-ups, had Sandy McDermid as a power forward which paid off dividends as he netted two goals. Dave Dawson and Keith Barton closed the scoring for A & B.  Jamie Temple continued his mastery of A & B with a pair of goals with Mark Smith and Bill Wagner closing out the offence for the league leading Bradley and Associates.

The pre-brunch special saw a hotly contested match between two of the top teams. The highlight was not the bus drivers 4-2 win over Foley’s Signs, but the fact that three players were ejected with fighting majors. The league will be reviewing the game videos before handing down suspensions before next week’s action.
Wayne Cameron kept the hot hand with another pair while Randy Clemo and Garnet (“I love playing forward”) Barber finished the scoring. Don McCarter and Gilles Desjardins tallied in a losing cause. Captain Foley was glad that the team’s winning streak was halted as his players were becoming too complacent as the playoff’s loom in the not too distant future.

The luncheon special was just good old fashion hockey: few penalties, low scoring and the odd great play as Karters Korner held on to a stubborn Kanata Chiropractor defeating them 3-1. Kevin Ellard, Mark Brooks and Carl Dube contributed singles while Jim Tierney replied for the back doctors.

DID YOU KNOW:  Kanata’s Todd White has more goals than Alexei Yashin.
