Award Nominations

The Kanata Oldtimers Hockey Association has announced the team nominees for this year’s Reid Vinet-Kanata Sports Club individual awards. It was interesting to note that 10 out of the top 12 point getters were nominated in at least one category and that three goalies were nominated in the MVP category. The league’s top point getter and top scorer with 18, was Chris Troughton from Karson Kartage as well as Karters Korner Mike Dube who was runner up to Chris. The league’s top playmaker, Terry Schaeffer had 16 assists made the list as well as Snelgrove’s Wayne Cameron, A & B ‘s Danny Garrett, Bradley’s Brian Blenkarn and the captain of Business Allies, Doug Roy. The three goalies included Al St. Pierre and rookies, Phil Ouellette and Chris Cowie.

The Top Defenseman category is once again represented by last year’s two finalists: Keith Schaeffer and Andy Brown as well as a previous winner in Bill May. The other nominees include Pat Dennis, John Symington, Rob Keay, Mike Ball, Brian Kronick, Keith Barton and Gary McParlan.

The nominees for the Top Sportsman award, which goes to the player who best combines fair play, team spirit and good sportsmanship, is dominated by veterans ( as in old) and includes Greg Bowes, Garney Barber, Guy D’Aloisio, Jerome MacLean, Don Fraser, Razor Ray Jodoin, Sandy McDermitt, Bruce Stalkie and Stu Curry.

A couple of players traded for each other find themselves both being nominated for the Hustler award. Nominees include Billy “goalpost” Wagner who finished second with 17 goals, Tony “ the Beaver” Mather, Kevin Ellard, Mark Snyder, Tony Tierney, Greg “ the Renfrew Flash” Coulas,  Denis “do do do “ Duhaime, Lloyd “the trade” Stuckless, Roger Lee and Cam McDonald.

The winners will be announced at the gala year end Awards Night on March 29 at the Holy Redeemer Church Hall on Rothesay Dr. Congratulations and best of luck to all  the nominees.
