Who would have thought it: A league high 31 goal and the goalies dominated each of the victories in action last week. The scoring race looks much different today after some players recorded career high points but to put things into perspective, so did the goalies put in outstanding play as their combined goals against was a measly four goals. In a bold move by rookie Capt. Rob Hawkins, Jeff Hyman and Murray McKeague were benched in an attempt to rejuvenate the KSC offence. The remaining players responded with a convincing 8-1 win over Business Allies. Aging veteran Don Fraser rang up five points, along with Terry “yes, he’s my brother, Backhand, Schaeffer”, added a career high, six points, welcomed the extra ice time and easily played their best games of the year. Jeff Snyder contributed with his first career hat trick and Hawkins added 4 points while the “sober” play of Bob Cyr shored up the defence. Tommy Smith was a “wall” between the pipes, while defensemen Daniel Strausberg and John Symington exhibited flashes of offensive talent. The hustle of Larry Sillicker rounded out the line-up, helping to quiet the rumours of a “mutiny”. The rookie captain will survive for the time being and time will tell if the benching of Hyman and McKeauge will result in dissention in the dressing room. In the post red-eye, the eventual “upset” happened as Mike Foley’s team focused on offence and not taking stupid penalties in handing Bradley and Associates their first defeat, 5-2. Scoring was distributed among five players: Gilles Desjardins, Chris Olive, Bob Mallett, Rob Keay and Mike Foley. Brent has had his team firing on all cylinders to the extent that he even scored a goal while not making the game…way to go officials….Brian Blenkarn also tallied for the losers. Mark Smith’s “ do one for the gipper” speech was not enough to rally the troops and Bradley will only bring post game “pops” even his team can bounce back and defeat Karsons. The mid-morning classic featured end to end rushes and excellent goal tending as both teams missed many opportunities. League leading goal scorer Wayne Cameron continued his banner year as he knotted both goals and attributed his teammate, Garnet Barber, as being a ‘team player’ for his success. Spoiling Mark Skrobek’s shutout was Mark Brooks. Godin’s A&B Sports team finally discovered their offence and defence all in the same game as they easily defeated a short handed squad of Family Chiropractic. Many of Levesque’s boys were fine tuning their golf skills in Myrtle Beach and missed out on the receiving end of a powerful attack by Godin’s charges. Leading the way was Dan Barrett with a hat trick and Greg Coulas with a pair and a singleton by Dave Dawson early in the game that saw a valiant effort by the opposition. Ed Lanthier was not tested often but when he was, rose to the occasion to register his first shutout of the season. And if that was not a great effort by Lanthier, he then played the final game of the day for Karson Kartage and registered another shutout. Andy Mutch led the way with a two goal performance with singles going to Kevin Croteau, Jim Mousseau and Chris Troughton as Karsons Kartage defeated the Garbagemen, 5-0. Captain McGuire decided to let his players be “free range” skaters in order to get the most of his potent offence. Mike Bryson now has to face a rejuvenated A & B squad next week with last place at stake. Thinking out loud, Bryson was heard to comment,” What was I thinking about at the draft”. DID YOU KNOW: In the recent series of TSN commercials involving NHL players, there is one Senator that appears in the background and can only be identified by his team number. Who is he????
