WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS! This year’s championship winner is Mike Bryson’s Goulbourn Sanitation team which shocked all KOHA observers by winning the coveted title. ( of note: the team had only 8 skaters) According to the captain the recipe for going from deadlast to overall winner involved some Eddie Shore “old time hockey”, Roger Neilson “clutch and grab” defense and reading Fred Shero’s The Fog between games. The garbage men outlasted a tired Karson Kartage team who had played the second game, by firing a backbreaking shorthanded goal by Lloyd Stuckless on a lovely pass from Brian Langill who then scored the second goal. Game MVP Stuckless, added the third goal for a three point game. Congratulations to all the team members!!!! In order to get to the finals, the Possums had to defeat Bradleys in a 7 man shoot out as the score was tied 3-3 after regulation . Scoring for the winners in this game were Laurent Benoit with a pair and ever reliable blueliner, Bill May. The goal scorers, in regulation, for the losing team were Bill Wagner( who broke his skate blade and could not finish the game), Jamie Temple and Doug Mousseau. Brent Bradley’s team missed being only the second team since Don Burley to have won the Triple Crown in KOHA history. The other semi final match saw a spirited, very aggressive and hard skating Kartage Karson defeat Doug Roy’s Business Allies 3-1 behind steady goaltending and goals by Greg Sim, Tony Tierney( this is where they keep the peanut butter) and Bruce Stalkie. Replying for the losers was Kevin Shea. So until next season: remember it is not where you finish in the standings but that you finish the season in good standing. See you at the Awards banquet, March 29 at Holy Redeemer Church Hall. ** Click on the attachment for a picture of the winning team. |
