The last week of playoff action saw 8 teams still in the running and when the dust had settled there remained two much unexpected combatants for next week’s semi-finals.

While the bacon was cooking during the first game, Karson Kartage played its third draw with the back people, 1-1. The record number of ties qualified McGuire’s squad for its semi final match next week with Business Allies at 9:30AM. Scoring for KK was Bruce Stalkie and replying for a desperate Chiropractor team was the ever reliable, Andre Ryan. McGuire’s accomplishment meant a lot to his squad since they finished in ninth place in the regular season.

Trying to act as  spoilers, Godin’s A & B Sports squad scored early in the match on a goal by Greg Coulas but Foley’s Signs fought back in a very fast paced game to cement the victory on goals by Don Albert, Keith James and an empty netter by captain, Mike Foley. The win was not enough for them to move on, but Chris Cowie’s  performance all year deserves some votes for MVP.

The ever surprising, “ gee I am glad it is the playoffs” Goulbourn team knocked off KSC 3-2 which qualified them for one of the semi-final matchs next Sunday.
Scoring for the cellar dwellers were Lloyd Stuckless, Barry Dowdall and Laurent Benoit. Keeping the game close for Hawkin’s squad were Jerry Jones and someone #13 or if it is 31, Bruce Robinson.
This author wrote many months ago that no team should take a cellar dweller team lightly during the playoffs and I was accurate. ( First time this year.)

Business Allies clinched a semi-final spot as they had to come from behind being down three goals to score three unanswered markers in the second to get a 3-3 draw with the winless bus drivers. Giving Snelgrove a seemingly commanding lead in the first were Mike Conway, the underpaid veteran , Garnet Barber and stalwart Keith Schaeffer. Helping with the comeback for the Allies were Kirby Gertsmar, veteran Garth Rogers and Kevin Shea.

Regular league leader Bradleys smoked Karters Korner 5-0 behind the shutout performance of Kevin Kahler and goals by Mark Smith, Steve Markhauser, Greg Bowes, Brian Blenkarn and a “beauty” by goalpost Bill Wagner to cement their advancement to the “big show”.

So on March 9 come out and watch the semis and finals as Bradleys play Goulbourn Sanitation at 8:30AM and Karson Kartage takes on Business Allies at 9:30AM.
There will be no rest in between games as the finals start at 10:30AM.
The length of the games will be shorten somewhat to take into account the possibility of a shootout in either of the matches.

The annual awards banquet will take place at the Holy Redeemer Church Hall on March 29 starting at 6:15 with dinner around 7:15. If you tell your captain that you will be attending and you do not make it, the cost of $25 that the league has to pay the caterer will be added on to next years registration. Make an effort to attend as there are many, many great prizes and some players can win half a year’s registration if your name is drawn.

See you at the semis and finals and definitely at the banquet.
