A rare penalty shot, the top scorer and best goalie crowned with respective titles and pre-playoff hockey was the order of the day as the regular season ended this past Sunday. Bryson’s team continued its preparation for playoff hockey by coming from behind to defeat McGuire’s KK team, 3-2. Scoring for the garbage men were Benoit Laurent, Stewart Currie and Bert Zeyl with the winner. Chris Troughton scored both KK’s goals to clinch the scoring title. Congratulations, Chris, from the league. McGuire is quick to point out that, due to a very disciplined coach, his team finished with a league low PIM of less than two per game. Of course, it did him no good as he finished near the bottom of the standings. He has informed this scribe that the coach has been fired and a new man has been brought in to teach them the ‘Fred Shero ( Mike Bryson) Broad Street Bullies’ brand of hockey. My sources has not told me who this new addition will be. No more mister nice guys says McGuire. The second game saw a very low scoring affair as Dan Barrett single handily defeated Family Chiropractic netting both goals with the winner being on a rare penalty shot. Replying for the back doctors was Dave Petrie. Al St. Pierre, on the penalty shot, remarked that the puck found its way through the bus hole. The mid-morning match up between Foley’s and KSC never amounted to much as Rob Hawkin’s team zapped Mike Foley’s team 5-1 behind the two goal performance of Terry Schaeffer. Singles went to Mark Snyder, Jerry Jones and Dan Strausberg. Mike Foley scored his team’s only goal remarking that he was not a very happy camper with only one extra skater for a late game and having to borrow another goalie as his was late in arriving. The pre-luncheon special saw Snelgroves clinch second place with a convincing 7-2 rout of Business Allies. Randy Clemo and Keith Schaeffer each had a pair with singletons going to Peter Kenney, Paul Seguin and Bill Morin. Replying for the losers were Kevin Shea and captain, Doug Roy. Congratulations to Snelgrove’s , Mark Skrobek who won the best goalie of the season title. The much anticipated top two team clash never materialized as Bradley’s easily handled Karters Korner 4-1. Scoring was spread out with solos going to Brian Blenkarn, Jamie Temple, Bill Wagner and Doug Mousseau. Keeping the winners honest with the lone KK goal was Kevin Ellard. NOW, LET THE GAMES BEGIN! On a sadder note, the league sends its condolences to Brent Bradly whose father passed away last week. A donation on behalf of the league has been sent to the Ottawa Boys and Girls Club. DID YOU KNOW: The N.H.L. leading goalie in shutouts is Terry Sawchuck averaging one every 9 games. A very impressive record considering a KOHA goalie averages one every 2 seasons. |
