IT PAYS TO GOON IT UP

Have you noticed in the PIM column that the bottom five teams have the lowest accumulated total and the top five teams have the highest? What a change from previous years when Bryson’s team always led the league in penalties. One wonders if you have to goon it up to succeed.

Someone forgot to mention to Jeff McGuire and his Karson Kartage team that Foley Signs would not lose another game this year. Led by a two goal performance by Bruce Stalkie, the red-eye special saw KK defeat Mike’s boys 6-2. Chris Troughton had a four point day scoring twice while Jim Mousseau and veteran Gary Croucher had singles. Newcomer Gilles Desjardins scored both Foley goals.

The bus boys,  led by the stellar goaltending of Mark Skrobek, shutout Lenny’s boys 3-0. The ambulance boys , Paul Sequin, with two, and Peter Capello with the other, had the red lights going on  as both paramedics accounted for the Snelgrove scoring. Thank goodness there are no sirens in the arena. The win moved Snelgrove into a second place tie with Foley Signs.

The mid-morning classic saw first place Bradley and Associates edge Goulbourn 3-1. Bill Wagner who is out of the closet and back on the Maple Leaf bandwagon, scored twice and Brian Blenkarn notching a singleton. The garbageman team’s boss, Dave Graham scored for the sanitation crew. With only seven games left in the regular season and Bradley’s now having a seven point lead in the standings, most are waiting for the fat lady to sing.

Going into their game, Karters Korner and Business Allies were tied in the standings and after the ice chips had fallen, nothing had changed. Mike Dube scored twice with Mark Brooks and Rick Turner adding singles. Captain Doug Roy, Jerome MacLean , Garth Rogers and Brian “I’m not a stay at home defenceman”, Kronik, replied for the Allies.

The luncheon game was a fast paced, close checking affair as A&B Sports came from behind on goals by Dan Barrett and captain, Wayne Godin to edge Kanata Sports Club 2-1.  Being a new guy, Mike Tierney, was not aware that Wayne Godin’s nickname is “decoy” for a reason. On a 2-1, Tierney passed the puck to Godin who closed his eyes and shot the puck. While it worked this time, Godin indicated that he prefers the role of decoy and wished players would quit passing him the puck. “There is a lot less pressure playing without the puck,” said Godin. Jerry Jones opened the scoring for KSC on a fine set up by Terry “the horse” Schaeffer.
