GOOD OLD FASHION HOCKEY

Good old fashion hockey! That’s what fans were treated to in last week’s play. Great goaltending, sharper than usual passing, nifty goals and heaven forbid, even some backchecking!

In spite of being shorthanded three times, Rob Hawkin’s KSC edged out the busdrivers, 3-2 in the red-eye special. Wiley veteran, Garnet Barber potted another “classic “ goal and “ don’t call me a doctor”, Paul Seguin, scored for the captainless Snelgrove Buslines. Jeff Hyndman, Rob Hawkins and Terry Schaeffer was all the scoring needed for KSC to register the victory . Schaeffer maintained his pace to keep near scoring leader Troughton.

Goulbourn Sanitation continued its climb from the cellar with a 4-3 victory over the go-karters. Jeff Harris ( or Marc Lamarche) led the way with a goal and two with captain Bryson finally scoring a goal ( yea Mike!) , Barry Dowdall with a goal and two, and reliable Lloyd Stuckless ,rounded out les buts.   Bob Lackey’s scorers were Rick Turner, Guy D’Aloisio and number 16. Seems Bryson’s warning of not becoming too complacent about his team’s record is starting to materialize.

Karson Kartage rebounded from last week’s tough loss with a romp over Levesque’s back doctors. Scoring leader, Chris Troughton  added to his lead with a goal and two, while Tony Tierney, Bruce Stalkie, Andy Mutch and Bruce Williams rounded out the attack. Spoiling Scott Bulbrook’s shutout bid was captain Len Levesque who has been left wondering, “ What’s going on?”

The pre-luncheon match up saw a very fast paced game ( for KOHA standards) as Business Allies and Bradley & Associates played to a 2-2 draw. Garth Rogers scored a nifty, ‘this is where the peanut butter is kept’ goal and Doug Roy added the other. “Driller” Thompson scored his usual veteran like goal while Pat Dennis scored one of the nicest goals of the season, going coast to coast and netting a shorthanded one. Both teams spent quite a bit of time in the old sinbin: must have been a full moon.

The final game of the day saw A & B Sports lose for only the second time in its last 10 games, as Foley’s Signs squeeked out a 2-1 win behind the amazing spiderman-like goaltending of Chris Cowie. The losers peppered him with over 30  quality shots with only Harold Murphy scoring a seeing-eye shot from the point. Supporting Cowie’s great performance was Cam McDonald with both goals and linemate Don McCarter with both assists. Foley , in  a post game interview, reiterated that it has been his goaltending that has made all the difference to his team’s success.

Players are reminded that this year’s Awards Banquet is to be held March 29 at the Holy Redeemer Church Hall on Rothesay Dr. beginning at 6:15PM with a great buffet around 7:30PM.
