Management Structure - RESPONSIBILITIES

President

The President of the SAHL is responsible for:

  • Appointing the functional positions as required;
  • Appointing and overseeing Division Convenors;
  • Confirming a Referee-in-Chief and handling of related referee matters;
  • Coordinating with the City of Ottawa regarding ice allocation;
  • Ordering/coordinating supplies for the league such as jerseys, socks, pucks, etc.;
  • Managing league communication activities, i.e. newsletters, announcements, surveys, promotions, etc.;
  • Soliciting and obtaining league sponsors;
  • Assisting in the preparation of initial divisional team lists;
  • Approving player movement upon consultation with Division Convenors;
  • Preparing and distributing Divisional schedules;
  • Reviewing on-ice incidents brought to his attention as being unacceptable behavior and determining possible suspensions or other courses of action necessary under the circumstances;
  • With the assistance of Division Convenors, ensuring that 1) the proper documentation is prepared in the event of a player suspension and/or expulsion, and 2) ensuring that players are notified of their suspensions and/or expulsions;
  • Applying and enforcing player suspensions and/or expulsions in accordance with league rules;
  • Reviewing player protests and appeals and making rulings in accordance with league rules;
  • Reviewing league rules;
  • Approving changes in league rules as recommended by the Management Team;
  • Ensuring enforcement of all SAHL rules.

Treasurer

The Treasurer reports directly to the President of the SAHL and is responsible for:

  • Collecting and depositing all receipts;
  • Facilitating all disbursements;
  • Accounting for all receipts and disbursement through a bank reconciliation and preparation of a Statement of Revenue and Expenses;
  • Handling all banking-related matters.

Registrar

The Registrar reports directly to the President of the SAHL and is responsible for:

  • Coordinating the registration process including preparing and distributing the player registration form;
  • Submitting all funds collected to the Treasurer for deposit;
  • Preparing initial divisional team lists in consultation with the Division Convenors.

Division Convenor

A Division Convenor reports directly to the President of the SAHL and is responsible for:

  • Appointing and overseeing Team Captains and time-keepers;
  • Balancing teams within the respective Division in consultation with Team Captains;
  • Preparing team lists with jersey numbers;
  • Coordinating the distribution and submission of game sheets;
  • Coordinating the distribution of jerseys, socks, pucks, dressing room keys, etc.;
  • Distributing schedules and jersey room keys to Team Captains;
  • Ensuring that nightly game sheets are properly completed and inputted to the league website;
  • Posting team and player stats at the St. Laurent arena;
  • Ensuring all teams have a goalie in place for all games;
  • Reporting all infractions requiring the attention of the President;
  • Ensuring the enforcement of all SAHL rules.

Team Captain

A Team Captain is a playing member of his team and reports directly to the respective Division Convenor.  He is responsible for:

  • Distributing team jerseys and returning all unused jerseys to the Division Convenor;
  • Retrieve and return team jerseys in the lockers as required;
  • Retrieve and return dressing room keys as required;
  • Notify division convenor of any player missing more than 2 consecutive games without a valid explanation;
  • Ensuring that his team is on the ice and prepared to play at the scheduled game time;
  • Ensuring that his teammates understand and observe the rules governing conduct and play;
  • Ensuring that players are treated equitably and are given the fullest opportunity to enjoy participation;
  • Ensuring that arena dressing rooms and facilities are not abused by their teams or others while those facilities are in their charge;
  • Ensuring that only registered players are present on the team bench;
  • Ensuring the enforcement of all SAHL rules.
