Manager's Corner - September 27, 2003
Welcome to St. Laurent Minor Hockey Initiation Program
September 27, 2003: This is the first day of our hockey program for the 2003-2004 season. Welcome everyone!
Because of the high demand, we are dividing the kids into four squads this year, rather than three. The most advanced players will practice for one hour on Sundays; the three other squads meet Saturday from 1-3 PM. NB: Children cannot attend both practices!
For many of the kids – and many parents as well – it is also the first day ever in a minor hockey program. Here are some things to keep in mind that will make the season more enjoyable for everyone:
· The kids are here to have fun. All of us should have fun.
· The program is run by volunteers. We can always use more volunteers, so if there’s a way you can help, please let us know.
· Like you, the coaches and managers are parents of kids in the program. All of us aspire to a standard of professionalism, but we’re all doing this in our spare time out of a love for the sport and the delight of working with children. Please help us to make this an enjoyable season for everyone.
· The coaches and managers cannot tend to the children both on the ice and off – taking kids to the washroom, tying skates, etc. We strongly urge parents to stay with us during the practice. Your children will appreciate it – and so will we. If you need to leave the arena for some reason, please arrange to have another parent take responsibility for your child while you are away.
· We’ll take a break in the middle of practice. Please provide your children with drinks, fruit, or other suitable snack. We strongly discourage children from using the break to purchase hot dogs or french fries, etc. from the canteen.
· The fees you paid to the St. Laurent Minor Hockey Association cover only the cost of regular ice time. We must raise funds on our own to help defray the costs of extra ice time for little tournaments (“fun days”) and hopefully an exhibition game or two. Over the course of the season, we will launch several fund-raising programs, including 50-50 draws, and sales of 67s tickets. Parents are expected to help with this fundraising.
· Tim Horton’s has generously provided jerseys. Each child will be provided with one for the season, but must return it when the season is over.
