PLAYOFFS-ROUND #2

From the sublime to the ridiculous: only 17 goals scored this week compared to last weeks; bottom two teams playing each other for first overall; outstanding goaltending and a minor league bus showing up after a game. All this and more highlighted week two of the playoffs .

Foley’s Signs, Chris Cowie continues to literally stand on his head as he kept his team in to salvage a 1-1 tie with Doug Roy’s , Business Allies.  Gary Logan potted the only goal for Foley’s while Chris Loney continues a hot playoff hand by scoring for the Allies. Captain Roy added that Cowie could have stopped a pea if it had been shot at him.

A scoreless first period and three goals each by the two bottom dwellers made for an entertaining match as Karson Kartage and Goulbourn Sanitation played to a 3-3 draw with the tying marker coming with less than a minute to go and almost in a surreal fashion as the puck slowly flipped endlessly over the outstretched hand of the goalie. Scoring for KK was Bruce Stalkie with a pair and captain,  Jeff McGuire.
Tallying for the garbage men were Jeff Harris, Bill May and Captain Mike Bryson.

The mid morning match saw Paul Armstrong return as a captain but it was not to be in the cards as Bradley’s held on to edge out A & B Sports 2-1 with both teams missing key players. Both stand in goalies ( Al St. Pierre and Phil Ouellette) did admirable jobs playing for teams they will have to face later in the playoffs.
Scoring for the winners were Ross Farmer and Bill ‘goalpost’ Wagner. Ruining the shutout with less than a minute was Paul Armstrong with a wicked snap shot from the slot.

The back doctors got back on the winning way with a well fought victory over Snelgrove, 2-1. The bus drivers missed endless opportunities and seem to be destined to finish out of the semis but stranger things have happened. Scoring for Family Chiropractor were Andre Ryan and Jim Tierney while replying for the bus drivers was Tony Mather. My KOHA ‘sources’ tells me that there was a yellow bus awaiting the losing team with a destination sign on the front that read, CUMBERLAND-one way…..I wonder if that is where all the golf clubs are stored?

Finishing off the day’s action was a stalwart performance by Rob Mulder as Karters’ Korner easily handled KSC 3-0 behind the two goal performance of Mike Dube and a singleton by Kevin Ellard.

Next week’s action is the pivotal weekend as some teams must register a victory to stay in the playoff run or face the perverbial, “Gone golfing” syndrome.

DID YOU KNOW:  The average age of the KOHA is 44.5 years.
