THE TIDES OF CHANGE

As we near the Christmas break ( yes, that is the correct word) teams have been making and losing grounds. A &B Sports continue their rise to the top of the pack while Goulbourn Sanitation continues their fall to the bottom. Some captains may be sitting on Santa’s knee one more time before Christmas and asking for new goal scorers.

Chris Cowie literally stood on his head as he turned away 35 shots in earning a phenomenal shutout beating the garbage men, 2-0. Captain Foley had told Chris that if he wanted a shutout he would have to earn it and that he did and more so. Keith James and Don Albert scored the only goals necessary as Bryson’s team,  sans captain, stayed mired in the cellar.

Rob Hawkins will be asking Santa for a better two minute drill in protecting the lead as his team squandered a 4-1 first period lead and hung on to play a 4-4 draw with Bradley and Associates. Rob Hawkin’s hat trick went wasted as Doug Mousseau scored on a breakaway roofing his shot to tie the game remarking afterward that,” It was an easy shot : hockey is such a simple game.”
Mark Snyder tallied the other KSC goal . Scoring for the Associates were JamieTemple with a pair, and the still hot, Greg Bowes.

The mid-morning classic saw journeyman Pierre Bedard and northern boy, Guy D’Aloissio each scored a pair , as Karters Korner blanked McGuire’s Karson Kartage 4-0 behind the stalwart net minding of Rob Mulder. Captain Bob Lackey remarked that his team is not consistent in putting together a series of victories and that must be addressed before the playoffs. Jeff McGuire is still looking for his veteran players (aren’t we all veterans) to step up and help prepare the younger ones for the upcoming playoff schedule.

Veteran Ray “Razor” Jodoin lead the back doctors to an impressive 3-1 victory with a pair of goals, the second one being while killing a penalty and the net empty as he stole the puck from Brian Kronick and dashed up the ice with Rogers all over him and deposited the puck for the insurance goal. Scoring the eventual winning goal was rookie, Brad Powe.  Replying for Business Allies was veteran Garth Rogers on a nifty give and go play that left the goalie wondering where he left his jock.

The late morning classic saw the red hot A & B Sports continue their winning ways. The Godin led team has won 6 out of its last 7 games and now sit only a couple of points out of second. Paul Armstrong, the “Bill Mukalt” of his team and the league scored a “Gordie Howe” of KOHA with a goal , an assist and a penalty. Dave Dawson scored a lovely goal and had two assists and captain Wayne Godin scored the eventual winner on a breakaway, all the way from the blueline, sliding home the puck through the five hole.  Wayne McKnight and Wayne Cameron tallied for the bus drivers. The team headed over to Mike Conway’s hot tub to ease their muscles as this was the fastest paced game either team had played all year. Captain Randy Clemo introduced his defensemen to Mark Skrobek since they were not around for the three goals.

A reminder of the Christmas breakfast next Sunday, compliments of the league.

MERRY CHRISTMAS  AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF THE PLAYERS AND THEIR FAMILIES. HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAY.
