2004-05 CBSGHL Rules

Cape Breton Super Gents Hockey League
2004-05 Season

Rules

1.)  Scheduled Games

Teams must respect the schedule as there will be zero tolerance for defaulting of games.  In cases where a team does not show up to play a scheduled game, it’s opponent will receive credit for a win.

Only in cases of poor weather, where the visiting team proves they are unable to travel, may a game be re-scheduled.  In this case, the visiting team representative must first contact the home team representative (note contact information above) to determine if weather conditions are serious enough to warrant a cancellation.  Contact must then be made with the CBSGHL President for a final decision to cancel.  Weather conditions are not to be used as an excuse to cancel games.  This has caused frustration for arena managers, players, and fans.

Both teams are responsible for making arrangements to re-schedule a cancelled game.  The home team should arrange this new date as soon as possible.  Once re-scheduled, the home team must advise the CBSGHL President.

2.)  Player Limitations

There are no player limitations with respect to skill level.  That means Jr. A, Jr. B, University, etc. players can play.  Players must be at least 18 years old.

3.)  Player Eligibility for Playoffs

A player must play in 6 regular season games to qualify for play in the playoffs.  Absolutely no exceptions permitted.  Rosters must be verified at the start of each game by team representatives (or a designate assigned by a team representative).

4.)  Game Structure

Games will consist of two 15 minute stop clock periods, and a 20 minute stop clock third period.  Ice re-surfacing after the second period is required.

5.)  Overtime

If required, a 5 minute stop clock 4 on 4 overtime period will be played to determine a victor.  If the game is still tied, the game will end and it will be recorded as a tie (1 point awarded to each team).  If a team loses in overtime it will receive 1 point for an overtime loss.

6.)  Red Line

There will be no red line with respect to offsides.  Icings will apply.  These icings will be no touch.

7.)  Checking

There will be no aggressive body contact.  Some physical contact is inevitable.  Aggressive contact will be determined by referees.  Those delivering aggressive body contact will receive a 2 minute minor penalty.

8.)  Minor Penalties

Minor penalties will last 2 minutes.  NHL rules apply.

9.)  Major Penalties

Major Penalties will last 5 minutes.  The penalized player will also receive a game misconduct and be suspended for one game.  Incidents where the penalized player intentionally checks another player from behind will be included under this rule.

10.)  Fighting

Fighting will result in a 5 minute major penalty and a game misconduct.  The penalized player will also receive a 2 game suspension.

11.)  Officials

All officials should meet a minimum level of certification.  Home teams are required to supply a minimum of 2 officials.  Increased officiating resources will be required for playoffs (add one linesman).  Complaints about officiating should be directed to the league president.  Home teams will be responsible to correct any complaints at the direction of the league president.

12.)  Timekeepers

Home teams are required to supply a time keeper.  This person must use an official scoresheet (supplied by the arena manager) and print legibly.  Goals, assists, and penalties need be recorded.  The timekeeper is also responsible for proper operation of the stop clock.

The timekeeper must review the rosters with the referee and team representatives prior to game start to ensure accuracy.

Please fax white copy of game sheets after each game (within 48 hours) to:
